Instant Coffee - Is It Coffee or Not?

There is some controversy over whether instant coffee should be considered a true coffee even though it stems from the same coffee bean as conventional coffee does. The argument is that although it tastes similar to quality coffee it is still not the same. This coffee goes way back to 1906. It was actually discovered by an English chemist who was residing in Guatemala at the time. This gentleman most enjoyed his coffee and happened to notice that on the spout of his silver coffee pot there was a powdery film forming. This was the beginning of the experimentation of the discovery of instant coffee. It was officially discovered by this chemist whose name was George C. Washington and he produced the very first brand called Red E Coffee.

The Best Coffee Comes From the Best Coffee Supplies

Depending on what your expectations are from your cup of coffee will really determine what type of coffee supplies that you need. If you just enjoy a hot drink occasionally that has a pleasant flavor then any of your basic coffee supplies will do. You simply need your coffee and coffee maker, or even just instant coffee and hot water. If on the other hand you are serious about wanting great taste in a great cup of coffee then you need to be a little more astute at purchasing your supplies. Here is a list to help you get started on your coffee purchases. Picking Your Coffee Beans: This will depend on your taste buds as to whether you like a strong heavily bodied coffee or a lighter type flavor. The two major types you will probably choose from are Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is more of a gourmet type coffee whereas Robusta has a heavier flavor to it. The other indicator of which type of coffee beans you want will depend on how much you are willing to pay. Arabica beans are more expensive than Robusta for example.

Picking Your Roast: If you are purchasing your beans and then having them roasted. You will be able to decide on light, medium or dark roast. Again, your choice is all based on taste. One thing you want to be sure of is that the beans are not roasted to the point where they are burnt. Also only, buy small quantities of coffee once it has been roasted. Reason being is that once the beans have become roasted they lose their qualities rapidly. Particularly if they are not kept in a proper container.  The Type of Grind: You most likely can have your roasted coffee beans ground at the store where you had them roasted but many people prefer to grind them at home. This means adding a coffee grinder to your list of coffee supplies. Here you are going to have several to choose from. The two most favored choices are either blade or burr. Many people prefer the burr because you get ground particles that are all the same size. This makes for a uniform cup of coffee and there is less clogging. Once you have chosen your grinder then you must decide on either a fine grind or coarse grind. Coffee Brewer: This item is just as important as all the other coffee supplies that we have talked about. Again there are decisions to be made as to which you prefer. There will be no shortage to choose from. Some people believe that the French Press makes the best drip coffee. It’s a little more work on your part but it certainly is worth it. What is important is that whatever coffee maker you use that it does not boil the coffee. Water: Use good quality water not from the tap, and not distilled water. The reason being is that minerals in the water help to bring out the excellent qualities of the coffee during brewing.
