To most people organic means no harmful chemicals are present and that’s really all they care about. There are other important issues when it comes to any type of organic commodity and this includes organic coffee. When one begins to consume coffee that has been organically grown for example, they are making a positive impact in many different areas.
What kind of impact are you making when you use organic coffee?
To begin with, the producers of organic coffee center their attention on the preservation of their crop growing areas. Without the chemicals and pesticides, leaching into the ground it only makes common sense that it is much healthier for the environment. So in an indirect but very important way you are making your own contribution to this.
Crop producers are not being exposed to the dangers of having to apply the chemicals to their crops that are used in the standard coffee bean crops. You are supporting good working conditions when purchasing coffee that has been organically grown.
Most often organic crop producers are affiliated or involved in other social environments as well. For example, fair trade. In this case, you are supporting the work fair ethics in developing countries. Meaning that the producers are being paid better money, which in turn is beneficial to their workers and communities.
Other crop producers may be involved with specific organizations but not all of them. In this case, if you are able to purchase organic coffee from these producers then you need to determine the cause that is most important to you.
By paying attention to the various certifications that your particular brand of organic coffee has then you will have a better understanding of what positive benefit’s the producer is involved in.
With the way that favoritism and interest is growing towards organically grown coffee it won’t be long before many more countries begin this way of growing their crops. Right now, the majority of the organically grown coffee comes from Ethiopia, Mexico and Peru.
There is always some skepticism as to whether the product one is buying is truly organic. Each country has their own criteria as to what organic products has to meet. In the USA, they have very specific rules regarding organic products that must be followed.
There are some “would be” organic coffee drinkers except they believe that the organic methods of growing are not going to produce the same quality when it comes to taste and aroma. This is not the case at all if anything much more care is taken with the this type of coffee, which only enhances the quality of the crop right through to the product to be used by the consumer.
